Gropius' F-51 chair with its cantilevered construction was designed for the director's room at the Bauhaus in Weimar. Its unusual form is the result of Gropius' research into state-of-art construction methods.

The chair has a frame made from ash, black stained or maple. It is upholstered in fabric or leather.

The chair has a matching sofa by the same name.
