Madame Dakar Chair, 2009
Ayse Birsel & Bibi Seck
Steel, woven nylon rope, wood and paint.
Debuted at Aprils Salone del Mobile furniture fair in Milan, the Madame Dakar chair is one of a clutch of chic-ethnique pieces set to debut from Italian manufacturer Moroso.
The pieces were created by designers Ayse Birsel and Bibi Seck, who view the Madame Dakar Chair as enveloping the body much like a hammock.
Birsel-Seck's Africa inspired collection for Moroso was literally created in Africa itself, with Seck living in Dakar where he collaborated with Salam Gaye, who leads the Moroso Lab in West Africa.
Designers Bibi Seck and Ayse Birsel used traditional wire weaving techniques to make this chair.
