Ingo Maurer

born in 1932, the Island of Reichenau, Lake Constance, Germany

. trained as typographer in germany and in switzerland,
. accomplished his studies on graphic design from 1954 to 1958 in munich,
. emigrated to USA, worked as a freelance designer in New York and San Francisco,
. resettled in munich in 1963,
. launched the studio 'design m' and created his first light object 'bulb'in 1966,
. designed special lightings,more likely art objects,for private collections,
. installed amazing light shows with his team during the international furniture and lighting fairs in Cologne and Milan,
. co-operated with japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake and designed special effects and huge installation for miyake's fashion show,
. his work was part of numerous exhibitions: at the Centre Georges Pompidou and at the Fondation Cartier in Paris, at the Stedelijk museum in Amsterdam, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Retrospective 'Passió per la llum' at the Museum Santa Mònica in Barcelona and was exhibited in several design museums including the design collection of the museum of modern art, new york,
. been selected as royal designer of industry by the Royal Society of Arts, London in 2005,
. had the conferment degree of the doctor of the royal college of art honoris causa in june 2006,
. has created more than 150 different lights and lighting systems,
. opened his own store in new york in 2001,
. currently designs light objects for his own company, the 'Ingo Maurer GMBH', based in munich.
